On the morning of Wednesday 11th April, the first ever online verifications of subcontractors under the new CIS scheme from package software were successfully performed by NG Bailey using COINS.

COINS and NG Bailey were amongst a number of organisations participating in HMRC’s “Controlled Go-Live” for CIS - as the result of the close working relationship that has been established with the software industry over recent months.

The verifications were performed by Neil Florence of NG Bailey.  Support was provided by Jim Etherton and Rob Osborne of COINS, with the CIS team in HMRC checking the results.

This has provided reassurance to the construction industry in general and COINS clients in particular that the new electronic verification system is fully operational.

COINS has been working closely with both HMRC and BASDA for many months to help ensure that new CIS is successful, not only for COINS’ clients but also for the industry as a whole.  This has again confirmed COINS’ position as market leader in construction software. 

NG Bailey is one of a number of COINS clients who have been actively testing the software as part of their preparations for new CIS, providing useful feedback to COINS.

Having overcome this first hurdle with new CIS, there is no room for complacency.  The next major milestone in the implementation of new CIS will be the successful submission of the first electronic monthly returns between 6th and 19th May.  Since approximately one third of UK construction spend is processed through COINS, the success of COINS’ clients in submitting these returns is critical to the overall success of the scheme, and COINS will continue to work hard to support their clients through this process.
