Bovis Lend Lease, one of the world’s leading project management and construction companies, is working with the COINS Electronic Trading Community (COINS-etc) to implement more efficient procurement processes. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Nigel McKay, Head of Supply Chain Management at Bovis Lend Lease UK, described some of their ambitions for the project. ‘We want to improve the controls and accountability in our procurement process while actually making the process simpler at the project sites. Too many purchases are being made via the purchase ledger route from many different vendors; we want to drastically reduce this methodology of procurement. We also want procurement to be straightforward, so anyone at any project site can purchase from an electronic catalogue. This will automatically ensure that they are dealing with preselected, preapproved suppliers at predetermined prices.’ Bovis Lend Lease is using a large, high profile, multi-year project as a pilot COINS-etc implementation. The focus is on the four areas of electronic procurement that offer a rapid return on investment: electronic catalogue, electronic procurement, electronic invoices, and electronic payment (BACS). At the pilot site, electronic orders and invoices are already being processed on a trial basis. Once the pilot implementation is complete, Bovis Lend Lease will use it to measure return on investment and plan the overall rollout of COINS-etc. Asked about the project return, Nigel McKay said, ‘Based on what we have learned so far, electronic invoicing at the pilot project can save us over £250k per annum in process costs alone. Implementing new tools such as COINS-etc will go a large part of the way of delivering against our quoted savings target for 2009-2010 of £2 million. We are confident that this system, when fully deployed in our business, will deliver a huge business benefit for us and will lead to additional efficiencies and cost savings in the long run.’ Bovis Lend Lease is one of the world’s leading project management and construction companies, operating in more than twenty five countries worldwide and employing approximately 8,000 people. Using industry best practices, Bovis Lend Lease works with clients to create high quality, sustainable property assets and is committed to operating Incident and Injury Free wherever it has a presence. |
