In 2008  the COINS Foundation event will support projects managed by Habitat for Humanity.  Habitat for Humanity was founded with the sole aim of tackling poverty housing on a global scale; it is working in 100 countries around the world and has built 230,000 homes in partnership with over 1 million people in need of simple decent housing.

The families who live in the homes (Homepartners) must invest up to 500 hours of their own labour (sweat equity) into building their house and the homes of their neighbours. As homes are built, so is the community.  Homepartners pay back the cost of their homes through a low cost, non profit mortgage. All repayments go into a revolving fund to pay for more homes to be built. A Habitat for Humanity home is a hand up – not a hand out.  They are now building at such a rate that every 21 minutes, another family moves into a simple decent home and begins a new life of hope, dignity and opportunity.
