Remitting Investment at May Gurney

As part of our commitment to ‘Be the Best’ we have introduced electronic supplier remittances at May Gurney. This represents a significant first step in moving towards electronic trading and reducing our carbon footprint, whilst improving efficiency and lowering costs.

We have worked closely in partnership with COINS-etc. to develop the software enabling purchase ledger remittances to be emailed to suppliers rather than printed and posted.

Since the launch back in July 2007, 80% of all remittances generated have been sent via email. This means that we save 110,000 sheets of pre-printed stationery equating to net annual savings of £13,500 before taking into account any time savings.

To complement this, the Finance and Supply Chain team have reduced the number of payment runs from two to one a month through careful communication with our suppliers.

This, along with time saved as a result of sending remittances by email, has released 35 working days within accounts payable; time which is now spent focusing on further improvement of processes which will enable us to scale up efficiently as transactional volumes increase through our continued growth.

We are the first COINS customer to use the newly-developed electronic remittances. The reduction achieved in our carbon footprint can now be realised many times over as other COINS customers adopt this innovative solution to sending out remittances.

The COINS-etc Electronic Remittance Delivery Service is a highly flexible managed service which enables construction companies to manage their supplier payments in a cost effective way. The service offers a wide range of deployment options which encourage the maximum number of suppliers to participate. The article above is based on a recent post-implementation review at May Gurney.
