Visitors to Brisbane can’t fail to notice the proliferation of Watpac signs on major construction sites – evidence of the company’s significant growth. With gross and net profit increases in 2007 of over 50% and revenues up by 30% to $645m, the company is showing that it knows how to manage growth including acquisitions, without losing sight of the bottom line. Watpac has been a COINS user for over six years, using Financials, Procurement and Site Manager amongst other modules and has had an early review of the new Commercial Manager module featured elsewhere in this newsletter. Commenting Ravin Raj, Chief Financial Officer said, ‘COINS has provided us with a solid business system platform which has enabled us to focus acutely on our business plans. Importantly, these include the consolidation of existing core businesses and also the interstate geographical expansion of our business. The solution has grown as our needs have; in fact we have doubled our number of users by rolling out COINS in our New South Wales Division. Ravin continued, ‘We look forward to continuing the roll out of these modules into our new Victorian business. Watpac projects are well known in Queensland and New South Wales and it is now expanding its presence in Victoria. COINS OA offers the capability for a browser based client interface and we are currently investigating the use of this secure access method. Watpac is also expanding its property business internationally with the opening of operations in Ho Chi Min city in Vietnam. As a high growth public company fully accountable to our shareholders, we are strategically focussed on managing our cash flow and investments. COINS captures information across our projects, our business units and our regions, all the time minimising the need to enter information twice. With such a wide array of data in the one knowledge base, we can provide concise reporting for our clients, our management, our bankers and the markets. COINS ‘dig deeper’ reporting and screen displays provide greater clarity to track our projects and helps us maintain a strong competitive edge. In our eastern seaboard building projects to our expanding Civil projects in Victoria, COINS offers us the flexibility to achieve good project cost management across these diverse assignments. Watpac is Queensland’s largest publicly listed construction company, with business covering construction, property development and refurbishment. As well as Queensland it has major operations in New South Wales and now Victoria with international expansion started with its office in Ho Chi Min City, Vietnam.
