Construction Industry raises over £230K on UK's Highest 3 PeaksOn 7th May 2011, forty teams from the construction industry (including BAM, Costain, Gladedale, Interserve, Kier, May Gurney, Miller Homes, Osborne, Shepherd Construction and Taylor Wimpey) gathered at the foot of Ben Nevis for the 9th annual COINS 3 Peaks Challenge. In total the teams raised more than £230K that will help build schools and homes in sub-Saharan Africa. The challenge was to climb the three highest mountains in the UK: Ben Nevis (1,344m) in Scotland, Scafell Pike (978m) in England and Snowdon (1,085m) in Wales, all in 24 hours. Eager to demonstrate their prowess, little did the teams know the weather would be some of the worst the event has ever witnessed. Despite the shocking conditions, congratulations are due as all 40 teams completed the challenge, with 22 teams finishing under 24 hours. Visit the COINS 3 Peaks Challenge website for a full event report. New to the event was Taylor Wimpey plc, who entered four teams. Andrew Rinaldi, Corporate Development Director, Taylor Wimpey, said: “Taylor Wimpey was pleased to join in the COINS 3 Peaks Challenge this year. The event provided a unique team-building experience for our company as well as an opportunity to make a broader contribution to the community.”
At the finishing line celebrations, Larry Sullivan, COINS Foundation President, thanked teams for their dedication, with special mention to year on year participants. He went on to explain why COINS supports and runs this event and the projects that would benefit from the funds raised. He said: “Put simply, the COINS Foundation builds; we’ll build anything – schools, hospital and homes. But we also build skills, confidence and prosperity; because we know the best approach to supporting communities is to move towards the ultimate goal of sustainability.” Awards were presented to the highest fundraisers including Taylor Wimpey (50K) and Costain (20K) with many more teams pledging in excess of 10K. COINS is already preparing for next year’s challenge on the 11th/12th May 2012. If you’d like to join us, contact the Challenge Team on 01753 501 000 or visit our website www.coins3peakschallenge.com
