Midmac-Moedatco JV live on COINS
MIDMAC Contracting Company W.L.L. (MIDMAC) is one of the largest Qatari and leading local contractors in the country. The Midmac-Moedatco JV (MMJV) is a Midmac Joint Venture Entity established to provide specialist Plant and Equipment Hire services, and in 2009 a decision was taken to implement COINS-ERP as an enablement platform to support the development and operations within the business unit. Elias W. Mufarrij, General Manager of MMJV, states: "We evaluated several systems and decided to sign up with COINS because it not only covered all the basic requirements of the business such as accounting, procurement, payroll and human resources, but it also has a plant and equipment management module, which is a specialist requirement for this growing business unit. We also liked the fact that COINS has a growing international reputation with a proven track record of implementing systems in large construction companies." MMJV owns, operates and maintains in excess of 2000 items of plant, equipment and vehicles to service and support MIDMAC and other customers’ construction activities. Plant, machinery and vehicles include drilling and earthworks equipment, concrete equipment, asphalt equipment, crushing plant, cranes and hoisting equipment, compaction equipment, electrical generation equipment, welding machines, air compressors and sand blasting equipment, water pumps and light and heavy transport. The COINS system is used to manage this extensive and diverse fleet, handling dispatch, off-hire and billing, including consumables such as fuel. The Workshop module is used to manage repairs, scheduled maintenance and inspections. The system tracks revenue and cost by plant item, with items such as labour, parts and services automatically allocated to dispatches and workshop jobs, as appropriate, from payroll, stock and other modules. The system produces sophisticated Asset Life-to-Date reports, comparing revenue and costs for each item where appropriate. The Stock module is used to manage an inventory of almost 5000 products covering spares and consumable items. Stock items can be issued to sites via the Dispatch routine at the same time as plant and equipment. Items can also be issued to workshop jobs when required for servicing or repairs. MMJV employs 800 staff whose records are maintained using the HR module which is used to track passports, visas, licences and qualifications. The system calculates Leave and Final settlements. COINS Workflow tool has been configured to automate some of the processes previously handled manually. Elias continues: "We are very pleased that we chose to work with COINS and we appreciate the support we have had in getting us operational on our new system. The training provided has also enabled us to customise the system to meet some of our specific reporting requirements, and to build our own forms and workflows. The MMJV business continues to expand with the prospect of significant growth here in Qatar over the next 10 years. In COINS, we have a system that not only supports our business processed now, but will also support our growth into the future."
