COINS is proud to be working with some of the major building contractors for the 2012 Olympic Games. Sporting venues in London and elsewhere are being constructed by COINS clients such as Barr Construction of Glasgow, regarded as one of the UK’s leading builders of sports stadia. Barr won the £58 million contract to build the 12,000-seat Basketball Arena, which will also be used in the Paralympics Games. Dean & Dyball, a division of Balfour Beatty Regional Civil Engineering, will build the Olympic sailing venue at Weymouth and Portland National Sailing cademy (WPNSA), including a 150-metre slipway; a race-boat parking area and lifting facilities; and moorings to be sheltered by a wave protection structure. Byrne Bros. Ltd was awarded a £50 million contract by Sir Robert McAlpine/Team Stadium for in-situ concrete works on the 80,000-seat flagship Olympic stadium. They were also awarded the design and construction of the multi-storey car park for the International Broadcast and Media Press Centre at the Olympic Park in east London. Byrne Bros is using new COINS Plant Manager Web Cat for site requisitions, linked to their hire desk in Mitcham. BAM Nuttall, a member of the COINS Electronic Trading Community, won the contract to build London’s 40-hectare Olympic Park. The contract covers the creation of new wetland and other wildlife habitats, installing new allotments and permanent park furniture, lighting, irrigation and drainage. The footbridge over the River Lea at Olympic Park will be built by Lagan Construction. The landmark 30-metre bridge will become a major focal point between the Olympic Stadium and Aquatics Centre. Bovis Lend Lease, COINS Financials users since 1994, is providing residential development and infrastructure for the Olympic Village at Stratford City London. P J Carey Contractors Ltd will undertake in excess of £25 million worth of Olympics work, including substructure and superstructure packages Village with Bovis Lend Lease. Crucial work is underway to prepare the transport infrastructure for the 2012 London Olympics. In a joint venture, Balfour Beatty Rail Projects is responsible for the new £363 million east London line project between Dalston Junction in north London and West Croydon in south London. J McArdle Contracts Ltd, a user of COINS ERP since 2000, recently completed the Bulk Materials Logistics Centre that services the Olympic Park. The Prescott Lock and Water Control project, a key element of the Olympics’ transport solution, was undertaken by design-build contractor Volker Stevin Ltd, COINS ERP users since 2001. Tonnes of material can now be delivered to the Olympic Park construction site by water rather than over London roads. Taylor Woodrow (part of VINCI Construction UK) is upgrading the Docklands Light Railway. This £208 million design-build contract covers platforms at eighteen stations, construction of two new viaducts and renovation of South Quay station.
