Sometimes routine, day to day operational issues can have as much impact on business performance as key strategic decisions.

 Lovell Partnerships, the affordable housing division of Morgan Sindall, faced such a problem recording timesheet data for site-based staff. Timesheets were keyed into spreadsheets by regional administrative staff and submitted to the Tamworth Head Office for subsequent input into COINS by the central payroll team. This led to processing delays and increased the risk of data input error.

 Lovell and COINS worked together to define a cost efficient process improvement which utilised available technology. The solution was for regionally-based administrative staff to load timesheets into COINS via the corporate intranet. This eliminates the problems noted above and, as a significant by-product, releases central payroll staff to work on value-adding tasks.

 David Brealey, Lovell’s Financial Controller, comments:

‘COINS OA offered the opportunity to create an interface that mimics a spreadsheet. This interface requires minimal user training and provides a more integrated solution than a 3rd party spreadsheet-based interface.’

 He continued, ‘By removing the need to re-key timesheet data into COINS, this development has delivered considerable time savings each week.’
