Top Fundraising team Extec

The COINS 3 Peaks Challenge proved to be another enormous success for the construction industry, with 49 construction teams pledging more than £430,000.00, smashing the 2007 fundraising record and bringing the event total to £1.63million.

Having made fundraising pledges and attended the safety briefings, at 14:00 the first teams strode out towards the summit of Ben Nevis, on the first leg of the challenge.  The weather was kind to the challengers, remaining fair on three mountains, Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon.

During the event reception in Llanberis, at the foot of Snowdon, the highest fundraisers and fastest teams were presented with their awards by COINS Chairman, Larry Sullivan.

Highest fundraising companies, all with two teams were; 1st place Extec who raised a staggering £27,000.00, 2nd Place Castleoak with £26,000.00, 3rd Place Geoffrey Osborne with £25,000.00, 4th place Skanska with £18,625.00 and in 5th Place Weston Homes with £18,000.00. Extec will receive two places and the other companies one place on the COINS sponsored trip next spring to visit Habitat for Humanity, CURE International and CARE International projects in Zambia or Uganda.

Stephenson Group pledging £16,000.00 were delighted to receive the new prize for the highest fundraising individual team and will also receive a place on the project visit.

2008 final pledges.

Every year the teams seem to invest in more training so they are better prepared to complete the challenge, and this year proved to be no exception with 31 of the 49 teams completing the challenge within 24hrs.  As well as excelling in the fundraising challenge, Extec also romped home first in a winning time of 20hrs 32mins, just a whisker behind the event record of 20hrs 17mins by Multiplex in 2004.  In 2nd place was Shepherd Construction, 3rd place Raymond Brown, joint 4th place Rose Builders and COINS UK.  The full challenge results are listed below.

If you would like to part in the COINS 3 Peaks Challenge 2009, the ultimate challenge for the Construction Industry, the event is now open for registration.  More than 10 teams signed up on the night, the event is generally oversubscribed so if you would like to take part Register Now.

Our special thanks to;
Global Challenge team, all our volunteers along with our 2008 event media sponsors, Construction Manager and Show House.
