Bruce Turner recently joined COINS as Director of Business Intelligence (BI) and Implementation after 13 years with Amec where he led the successful COINS implementation in the UK, replacing 12 legacy systems. Recently he implemented the Hyperion Business Intelligence tool designed to pull information from disparate data bases across Amec sites in the UK and USA. This experience positions Bruce well to lead the further development of the COINS BI tool, which is increasingly delivering added value to a number of clients including Weston Homes, Pochins, Skanska McNicholas, Connaught, Gladedale and Staveley. Bruce explains how he sees COINS BI benefiting clients; ‘Our approach to Business Intelligence is to create tools that allow our clients to dynamically access and review the key business information within COINS and other applications. Our Open, Service Orientated Architecture allows clients to choose the components that suit their needs and interface and exchange data with other systems. We believe COINS BI offers value both as a complimentary resource to other tools and increasingly as a primary resource for analysing and reporting Construction Industry information.’ He continues, ‘As with all modern solutions, the COINS BI tools can deliver information to executives in a variety of ways; through a web based dashboard showing graphical trends and KPI’s, or a month end report pack delivered automatically by email. Operational and finance staff can collect data in a Data Warehouse (or multiple Data Marts), customise data views through Data Sets and export information to standard PDF and Excel files. Where COINS increasingly will deliver further added value is through the embedded business logic and industry knowledge that allows data to be analysed, summarised and otherwise manipulated in way that is specific to the construction industry e.g. automatic month-end reconciliation of the contract and general ledgers. With generic Business Intelligence tools, all of this ‘Business Intelligence’ would have to be built from scratch.’ Bruce has a 1st class honours degree in Electronic Engineering and is an Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA) with 20 plus man years of industry IT and process expertise. |
