  Day 2

Day 2 Photo top 1

Day 2, the busiest conference day, offered sessions on Plant Hire, Human Capital Management, Delivering Contracts and Business Intelligence as well as an array of Special Interest Group meetings and workshop sessions.

Derek Leaver, COINS CEO, opened the morning by taking a look at how COINS operations have developed  around the globe and considered with the audience the benefits to the COINS client base of such global operations.

After lunch the Chairman’s address was very well received.  Larry Sullivan explored some the headlines from the press over recent months — 'naked short selling' and 'off balance sheet' — and what this might mean to businesses.  Quoting Churchill, 'Never give in - never, never, never', Larry congratulated the audience on their continued optimism, signified in part by their attendance.  He went onto explore that COINS was a very safe business to be working with; how offshore development and electronic trading in particular strengthen the COINS strategy, and how this would benefit COINS clients now and over the coming years with lower development costs and greater process efficiency.  Larry emphasized the importance of construction expertise and that COINS' offering to its clients in this regard is second to none. Larry closed his address by thanking the audience for their continued support of the COINS 3 Peaks Challenge particularly in these more challenging economic times.

The very popular Business Intelligence Showcase provided perhaps one of the more humorous insights into the benefits that can be achieved through datamarts  and business intelligence with the now somewhat infamous ‘Datamart Rap’ directed by and starring Yan Lamas.  The showcase went on to show how, using datamarts, you can summarise information at any level, view data though digital dashboards and see trend analysis. Looking at case studies with Connaught, Pochin and Masco the audience were able to see the how client-orientated the tools can be.

Throughout the day the Executive Stream gave COINS clients an ideal forum to discuss and debate the long-term vision for COINS solutions offered and the delivery of those solutions.  The sessions focused on building closer strategic relationships and understanding key drivers and how best these can be supported and add value to their organisations.  Seeking to improve understanding and direction by exploring the longer term needs of the Clients,

Tuesday was rounded off with a special session covering the COINS 3 Peaks and the COINS foundation (see special report) followed by a beautifully themed conference dinner and lively entertainment from the Comedy Club.
