Main Stage: Sustainability is a youth issue – is it?
Who is responsible for driving construction sustainability? On Day 1 of UK Construction Week COINS CEO, Robert Brown, will chair a main stage debate with a panel of committed and passionate entrepreneurs who will explore ideas about how a sustainable future for construction could be achieved. Hear ideas from Ehab Sayed (Biohm), Rebecca Rickwood (Gement) and Valentina Dipietro (Mykor). This session is also an opportunity to discover more the COINS Grand Challenge, a competition aimed a kickstarting innovative ideas to transform the construction industry.

What has one of the world’s technology giants learnt in its journey to become a carbon negative, water positive, zero waste company by 2030, does it represent a breakthrough in digital culture, and is it the lead we will all follow? Robert Brown, COINS CEO, will also provide insight on how this learning can be utilised by construction companies.

The built environment has a key part to play in achieving a sustainable future, with ‘Environmental, Social and Governance’ (ESG) becoming an ever-growing factor in how industry members carry out their business. Speakers Nicola Barclay, CEO, Homes for Scotland and Gill Henry of Ecosystems Technologies will explore what future developments in homebuilding could look like.
Issues and challenges facing the housing industry, whether public or private sector, include climate change, the growth and encouragement of active travel, and demographic change. All are converging to create a perfect storm for developers who have dealt with only limited disruption over the last 40 years.
