Dream big! Make your idea a reality by entering the Grand Challenge, and help to construct a better future!
The COINS Grand Challenge is a global competition to uncover innovators, entrepreneurs and students whose ideas could improve the built environment. The deadline for entries is 6 April 2018 and all details can be found on www.coins-grandchallenge.com
There are two challenges: New and Emerging Technologies, looking for ideas about how technology could be applied to the built environment in the future, either during construction or throughout the built life cycle, to improve energy efficiency or reduce costs; and the Leadership Challenge exploring how leadership could bring a new approach to the construction industry.
Each challenge is split into two categories, an open competition for professionals as well as a student (undergraduates) competition. Prizes include $150k/£115k business investment, R&D grants as well as career enhancing opportunities, paid internships and funding towards further education.
Previous winners include Interior Architect Christel de Bakker whose big idea was to link open plan office lighting systems with occupancy sensors and Christine Boyle whose Senergy Solar Thermal panels aim to deliver the next generation of emission free heating and cooling for building projects.
Robert Brown, Group Chief Executive Officer at COINS said:
“The COINS Construction Industry Grand Challenge is aimed at encouraging talented entrepreneurs, undergraduate students, engineers, architects and those within the construction industry to bring their visionary ideas from the realm of the conceptual to reality.”
The Grand Challenge is for innovators from various backgrounds. From entrepreneurs or start-ups, to researchers, academics, or a professional with hands-on experience in a field related to the built environment. The student category is for anyone studying architecture, engineering, computer science, construction management, sustainable development, business or ANYTHING that can be related to the built environment…
The COINS Construction Industry Grand Challenge will be judged by an international panel of industry experts and entrepreneurs, including Brian Lane, CEO of Comfort Systems USA, Michael Pearson, President, DSA Technologies and Larry Sullivan, Chair of COINS.
The competition is now open for entries and the deadline for all submissions is 6 April 2018. For more information and to enter the COINS Construction Industry Grand Challenge, please visit http://coins-grandchallenge.com/
