COINS is pleased to announce our partnership with Tableau Software as a reseller of Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server. Historically, Business Intelligence and Reporting have required intensive involvement of the IT department. With Tableau, business users are able to quickly create rich visualizations and dashboards on their own with an intuitive drag-and-drop interface.
Tableau’s native interface to the Progress database and its ability to report off multiple data sources provide the solution that COINS clients have been seeking to put the power of business analysis into the hands of their business users.
Tableau can be used directly with the COINS database. The visualizations created with Tableau are web-based and can be placed on and run from COINS OA menus. Security is often a concern when allowing business users to report off the database, this however is not an issue with using Tableau as it utilizes the security from COINS to allow access to data.
At the heart of Tableau is a proprietary technology that makes interactive data visualization an integral part of understanding data. It is often difficult to see patterns in multi-dimensional data on a report or spreadsheet, for example profitability by region, by project, and by customer all at once. This can be understood quickly with the geographic mapping built into Tableau. On a map, circles would represent profitability (with smaller circles being less profitable and larger circles more profitable), the color of the circle would represent the customer, and the circle’s placement on the map would represent the region. By hovering over a circle, the user can view more detailed information. The user is able to create this visual in minutes rather than hours with Tableau’s tools and intuitive drag and drop interface.
The Tableau reseller partnership delivers a powerful asset to COINS users, complementing the screen design/reporting tool (COINS OA Designer) and simple report builder (COINS OA Report Writer) tools already built into COINS. With the addition of Tableau, business users and IT can all work in tools that fit their roles and help optimize the time spent reporting off of COINS data.
Tableau Software helps people see and understand data. Ranked by Gartner and IDC in 2011 as the world’s fastest growing business intelligence company, Tableau helps anyone quickly analyze, visualize and share information. More than 10,000 companies get rapid results with Tableau in the office and on-the-go. And tens of thousands of people use Tableau Public to share data in their blogs and websites.
